Time moves relentlessly. This seems even more so as we age. 2007 was here, and now it’s gone. A new year of 2008 has arrived with all its promise and possibilities. Kingdom living is learning to move in God’s flow in time. It’s a never ending learning process that has power and potential to change lives and destinies. Sometimes this seems relatively easy, while at other times so difficult.
Time is part of the fabric of our life and how we use it is a measurement of life. Often it brings a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment, while at other times it can elicit a sense of guilt or waste. I’ve learned that God often evaluates our lives and our use of time quite differently than we do. Productivity, for many of us is a primary determinant of our sense of stewardship. Did we wring every moment from everyday and was it productive in our estimation? We often value ourselves on this basis. My perspective of words like “productivity, priorities and value” has changed greatly through the years. Much of what I once valued highly I now see quite differently. That includes “productivity”, what it truly means and how God values and measures it. As our apparent productivity diminishes, does that also diminish us? Do we then have less value; to God, others or ourselves? Scripture is clear that God does not value or love us less, but does it change how others view us and especially how we see ourselves?
How do aspects like faithfulness, perseverance, trust and resting affect the measurement of one’s life? I’m not always sure, but their significance to me now often surpasses the matter of my productivity. I also know that I am more aware of His love of me today than ever. He has not changed, but I have. Changed as I’ve learned to trust, rest and receive more easily. Changed as His healing love has allowed me to feel so much more valuable. Changed as I’ve learned that He really is the Lord of the harvest and I don’t have to be.
The heart of life is relationship; with Him most of all, then with myself and others. Time is relentless, but I no longer am. I don’t have to be. The more I’ve learned to rest in Him and to receive from Him (and others), the more I understand it is so much less about me, and so much more about Him.

The holiday season from Thanksgiving through Christmas is just about my favorite time of the year.
Gratitude is an attitude, not a date on the calendar. But it is good to recognize and set aside a day to remember to be grateful. A Thanks – giving Day!
The first semester of nine classes has just been completed. What a special time it has been with a focused class of gifted Christians. They came “to do the work of ministry and strengthen the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12).
